Biography
Irvin learnt the game of golf as a caddie at the Soweto Country Club at the age of 11, and was taught by many around him. Within nine years of first picking up a club, he had his handicap down to scratch, and started to lay the foundations for a career in golf. He played his first U/23 interprovincial in 1997, and retained his place in the team the following two years. After acquitting himself superbly and gaining great experience from a myriad of amateur tournaments, Irvin decided to turn pro in the year 2000. He has been a member of the Sunshine Tour ever since, and has shown his potential with a top 10 finish. He enjoyed a fruitful 2012 on the Big Easy Tour, where he finished inside the top 30 on the Order of Merit, earning him the right to compete in the Big Easy Tour Championship. Irvin is coached by Ashley Roestoff, and lists some of his greatest achievements as having played in the Nelson Mandela Invitational in 2003, along with winning the Vusi Ngubeni qualifying school that same year. Irvin has also had an impressive seven holes in one, and would love to play at Leopard Creek with Ernie Els, Rory McIlroy and his hero, Tiger Woods. Away from the course Irvin is a family man and a proud father of four. He is also a pastor with deep roots in his faith.
