Born in Bath, in 1982 Steve has been playing golf since the
age of nine. The game rapidly took a front seat in his life,
developing into his lifelong passion. Supported by his
mother Mary he quickly went from strength to strength. A
true junior star, Steve won his first major amateur
championship at the South West of England Boys Championship
with a record breaking 15 under-par total. His triumph
caught the attention of the English Golf Union who promptly
gave him a place in the England squad. He took full
advantage of this opportunity and went onto to win the
prestigious West of England Championship and the Leadbetter
Prospects Tour, whilst continuing to represent England at
all levels. Steve turned pro in 2003 following the
experience he gained
from the amateur golf scene. Steve had a solid start to his
professional career, winning at Broom Manor on the Jamega
Pro Golf Tour. In 2006 he claimed five victories on the
Jamega Tour and reached final stage at European Tour Q
School. In 2007 and 2008 he added six Jamega Tour titles to
his name. In 2009, Steve claimed his maiden victory on the
PGA Europro
Tour. He finished the year in 4th place on the Order of
Merit and earned his Challenge Tour card for 2010. Despite
the victory, his greatest success during the 2009 season was
his qualification for the Open Championship at Turnberry.
Steve made three European Tour appearances in 2010 at the
Austrian Golf Open, Madeira Islands Open and the St.Omer
Open. His best finish came at the Austrian Open where he
finished in 11th place. He made 10 cuts during his season on
the Challenge Tour but failed to retain his card. He
returned to action on the Europro Tour in 2011 and finished
the year in 37th place. Steve started the 2012 season with
some changes around his
team. A change in management was made and a new training
regime was adopted. He picked up his first victory on the
Jamega Tour at Cumberwell Park and found himself battling
for the win in numerous tournaments throughout the year. His
consistency earned a second place finish on the Jamega Tour
money list. Steve's hard work throughout the 2012 season
paid off when he turned his attention to the Sunshine Tour.
The low category he had on the tour meant that he would have
to qualify for each event. This didn't prove to be a
problem as he played himself into contention at the Lion of
Africa
Cape Town Open and eventually finishing in 16th on two
under-par. He then qualified for the Nelson Mandela
Championship, in first place after a six under-par 66, and
finished the week in a tie for 39th on one-under par. The
result ensured that he regained his Sunshine Tour category
for 2013
